An Obvious Idea for a Movie

The movie Up in the Air was based on the idea of corporations farming out the unpleasant job of firing people to a professional. What about farming out to a professional the pleasant job of making arrangements for a happy divorce?

No doubt dozens of screen writers are working on it.

On January 20, Le Monde reviewed a business model. “You want to divorce your spouse but daren’t tell her to her face? Bernd Dressler, head of Berlin’s Trennungsagentur, will do it for you, offering several formulas. A simple telephone message (“I’m sorry to inform you…”) costs 29.95 euros, while a written break up will cost you an additional ten euros.”

What a bargain!

  1. Perhaps the English name of the company could be John Alden Inc. But here how many Myles Standishes would use it?

  2. Thank you. I’m surprised you did not remind me of Cyrano de Bergerac.

Re one of your earlier posts. Did you know that the Toronto Faculty of Music is performing “Candide”, February 4-7 at the MacMillan Theatre? I love their productions!

  4. Well, Cyrano would have been in the other camp – an agent for marriage not for divorce. Did the Trennungsagentur quote a rate for creating the grounds for a divorce based on adultery? Or perhaps German law would have a problem with that…
