According to a study by the Pew Research Center, Christians are now the most persecuted religious minority in the Middle East and Africa.
The Swedish paper Dagens Nyheter comments (March 28):
“The reluctance of the West to take decisive action against the persecution of Christians has many causes: fear of Islamophobia, the colonial history and a black and white view of the world. The image of Muslims as powerless victims and Christians as privileged perpetrators is so strongly anchored in our minds that we find it hard to recognize that the Christian minority is oppressed in many regions.
“In this context it is important that Muslim representatives across the world should resolutely condemn violence against Christians. That would show that this religious conflict is not one between Muslims and Christians, but between an extremist minority and a large, tolerant majority…. It is everyone’s responsibility that religious tolerance should once more become the norm.”

My futile hope is for Earth, one day, to be free of religion. The planet would be a saner, safer place. Justice, values, ethics and morality are not dependent on religion. One can be good without God. And sadly, it appears, He is not very good at preventing persecution, not even of those who believe in Him!
I share your hope. However, apparently there are some brain-researchers you claim that there is something in homo sapiens which makes it unlikely that our hope will be fulfilled. What can you do about this?
I can do nothing. It is in God’s hands. : )
Have you read the Bible? I did not allow my children to read it, because it is so violent, with the result that my son can quote the most obscure passages. He read it secretly.
What has happened to the Church in the Middle East and North Africa is a disgrace! Does anyone care… apparently not.
It seems as if the situation is only beginning to sink in. And, tragically, action may not be taken until too late.
