The Blurring of Borders in Central Europe: Poles and Czechs Move West

More and more Poles are leaving their country for East Germany, filling up the gaps left by the East Germans who have immigrated to the West. An important Prague paper recommends that Czechs and Poles also take this path.

“The pace at which East Germans are moving west is unprecedented…. The massive transfer of money from the west to the east, coupled with the construction of a cutting edge infrastructure offers Czechs and Poles a wonderful opportunity to ‘colonize’ this area.

“Poles in particular have already begun to take advantage of this, living in Germany and working in Poland. In this way, a Central Europe in which the borders are frequently blurred is making a comeback. One reason more for the Czechs to rid themselves of their inferiority complex regarding the Germans and Germany.”
