Poland Celebrates Twenty-five Fantastic Years

“It’s hard not to be proud, of Poland and of everything we have achieved in the past quarter of a century. It has been not just a relatively good period, it’s been an absolutely fantastic period for Poland….

“At the beginning of the transformation many people hoped Poland could become something like a second Spain. Above all they were thinking of a peaceful political transition and a quick economic upswing, beautiful new motorways, airports and train stations. And all of that has come true….

“I now wish for my fellow citizens that the state will function better in future and that the courts will become more efficient. I wish everyone less unemployment and more money. Above all, however, I wish them more open-mindedness and joie de vivre.”
