Common sense is not so common.
I have only made one prayer to God. It’s a very short one:

Who knows what the original French was. I assume Voltaire meant common sense à l’anglaise - something unFrench, unCartesian. If I am right, the quote is characteristally Voltairian.
Somewhat removed from Voltaire’s ‘Age of Reason’, in postmodernist (‘Clintonian’) terms any assertion of ‘is’ is polysemic (itself an oxymoron).
