Princess Anne has suggested that British attitudes to eating horsemeat might have to change to improve the standards of care for the animals. Her comments come in the wake of the horsemeat scandal and as charities warn of a horse welfare crisis, with 7,000 at risk of abandonment and neglect.
During a speech to the annual conference of the charity World Horse Welfare, of which she is president, the Princess Royal claimed that owners might take better care of their horses if they believed they could sell them for meat.

Horse meat is rather hard to find in Toronto the good. There used to be equine butchers in the Italian quarter however they have disappeared. Only available from Fiesta Market by special order and under the counter. Pity, I miss the lean, full flavour.

Perhaps you missed the documentary “No Country for Horses” exposing the cruel, brutal disposal of horses in Alberta slaughterhouses. I am sorry, but viewing it might make you choke on those lean flavorful pieces of horse meat.
Isn’t it IKEA that ‘flavored’ their meatballs with horsemeat? With whose welfare in mind, one may wonder. As the Independent reports: ‘The embarrassment comes soon after the company was forced to withdraw the Swedish meatballs popular with its customers patronising its in-store restaurants, after tests on the product in the Czech Republic found traces of horse meat.
Here’s a question I would like answered: in Newfoundland, moose are a hassle and the provincial gov’t goes to great lengths to cull them. It’s wonderful meat. Nfld has suffered from the disappearing cod stocks and fisheries in general. Why isn’t there a flourishing trade in exporting moose meat to the rest of Canada, and indeed to the rest of the world? In Ontario, you can buy all kinds of exotic game meats (elk, caribou, wild boar, muskox,…), but I can’t find moose anywhere, online or off.
